COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN

The CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) is “the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign,” and this year the Lion of Judah Ministries is included as a qualified charity.
From the CFC website (http://www.opm.gov/cfc/):
“…more than 300 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally to help to raise millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by Federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season (September 1st to December 15th) support eligible non–profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.”
The CFC is for federal employees:  civilian, military, and postal workers.  If you know anyone in those categories please let them know that they can designate part or all of their contributions and pledges to The Lion of Judah Ministries.  The sole mission of The Lion of Judah Ministries is the support of The Lion of Judah Academy.
You can provide a great blessing to the school simply by informing friends and family who are federal employees or in the military, as well as publishing this information in church bulletins and newsletters.
The campaign is just getting started, and continues through December 15.  So throughout the fall, ongoing publicity about this opportunity can be a great help.
The School is listed under “Lion of Judah Ministries, Inc.” and is included in three categories:  Educational, International, and Religion-related.

     Thank you!
SECONDARY SCHOOL BUILDING UNDERWAY

January, 2007, marked a new beginning and a great leap of faith for the Lion of Judah Academy:  we held our first secondary school classes!
God had already provided the dream, the land, and the students.  But we were – and still are! – stepping out in faith on everything else:  money, buildings, teachers, supplies and materials…everything!
In July, while Lynn and Hart were at the school, the land was cleared and foundations were marked out for the first classrooms and administration building.  Since then, the foundations were laid and construction has been proceeding quickly.  Several sections of the first  buildings are completed up to the ‘ring lintel’ or, basically, to the place where the roof begins.
There is a certain amount of time pressure to get basic construction completed, because all Tanzania secondary school students must take a national exam at the end of “form 2” (the second year of secondary school).  The school can only give that exam if it is registered/accredited.  A major requirement for registration is to have basic buildings in place and functioning.  So…the school must have at least a few classrooms, labs and related building needs completed in time to become registered, and meet other qualifications necessary for our students to take the form 2 exam.  That exam is now less than a year away.  There is plenty of time…but funding is an issue.  One of our core principles is never to go into debt, or to spend money we do not have available.
In the meantime, secondary school classes are meeting in the chapel and in unused rooms of the recently completed dormitory.
Plans call for The Lion of Judah Secondary School to include a full complement of classrooms and labs, a library, chapel, administration building, dormitory, athletic fields, and other related buildings.  Teacher housing will be needed, as well.
We estimate the cost to construct and equip the secondary school may reach $200,000.  But that is very difficult to tell because the expense of basic building materials such as cement, lumber and steel is extremely volatile in East Africa.  But we believe that God, and God’s people, will provide!
“A PENNY FOR YOUR SEARCH….”

Have you heard of GoodSearch? (www.goodsearch.com/)
GoodSearch is a way to help your favorite charity – such as The Lion of Judah Ministries -- earn money every time you do an internet search…“A Penny for Your Search.”
      Here’s how it works:
On the GoodSearch homepage, choose from thousands of organizations – the Lion of Judah Ministries is one of them.  Search the Internet just like you normally would — the site is powered by Yahoo!, so you'll get high-quality search results.  Fifty percent of the revenue generated from advertisers – an estimated penny per search -- is donated to the charity, school or nonprofit organization of your choosing.
A penny per search doesn’t sound like much, but it can quickly add up.  If The Lion of Judah Academy has just 100 people doing 2 searches per day, that would earn over $700 in one year!
GoodSearch provides a very easy way to add a search bar to your internet browser, so it’s always there ready for you to use.
Check it out.  “A Penny for Your Search” can really add up!

UPDATE ON LYNN

Many of you know of, and have been praying for, Lynn’s recent medical challenges.
      Bottom line:  she’s doing great!
On August 9 she underwent a lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy, for breast cancer.
On August 21, she had a heart attack!  Her left main coronary artery was 99% blocked!  She had two stents implanted in an emergency procedure.  We narrowly missed a major catastrophe, probably death.  We regularly thank God!!
Today – September 29 -- as I’m writing this update, she’s outside sanding on a furniture refinishing project!  We’ve actually gotten used to visiting doctors, and enjoy watching the expression on their faces when they discover all that she’s been through in the past six weeks!  Without fail, they say, “You look great!”  And, in fact, she does!  And she feels pretty good, too.  She still tires a bit more quickly than she’d like, but every day is better than the day before.  The heart attack was only 40 days ago!
She is now, officially, a cancer survivor.  The surgery was completely successful.  No cancer was detected beyond the edges of the tumor, or in the lymph nodes.  She begins radiation treatments in about a week.  After that she will be taking anti-estrogen drugs.  Both of those are intended to destroy and/or suppress any cancer cells which may have avoided detection, and further reduce the risk of any recurrence of the disease.
We know her heart muscle experienced some damage during her heart attack.  But there is considerable optimism that she will be returning to her normal, full lifestyle.  She’s been going to cardiac rehab for several weeks now, and is doing quite well.  She had a stress test a couple of days ago.  They pushed her hard, and she felt fine when it was over.  We’ll get the results soon, but just going through it, and finding she could work that hard without having any more pain or discomfort, was a great encouragement.
Thanks for all your prayers, encouragement and support.  Please keep praying, as there is much left to do.
