The Lion of Judah Academy - Construction

Digging a trench for the foundation

In November, 2001, when the decision was made to start The Lion of Judah Academy, there was no land, no campus, no building. Much has changed since then! And much construction work remains to be done!

Several buildings have already been completed and are being used by the children and teachers at The Lion of Judah Academy…others are under construction, and several more are being planned.

Completed so far are three classroom buildings, dormitory, library, chapel, and various other buildings.

The third, and largest, classroom building includes the primary school library, computer lab, and chapel.  The campus has been designed for great versitility, and has already served as a center for conferences and meetings, when school is not in session.

In Tanzania, schools are usually responsible for providing housing. To that end, two large houses have been completed, and six or seven more are being planned. The headmaster's home and two other large teacher's house have been built and are being used.   Several smaller homes for teachers are completed, as well.

Currently under construction is a large garage and workshop, which will become the hub of the vocational school.

And, of course, now that The Lion of Judah Secondary School has opened, a full range of facilities for that school will need to be built!

Finally, a system is needed to provide clean, fresh water to the school on a reliable basis. This will become increasingly important as the school grows.
Virtually all of the construction work is being done by local workmen, so in addition to everything else, the building of The Lion of Judah Academy is a great blessing to the local economy, providing dozens of jobs and many other opportunities to local men and their families (click on "Building in the Bush" - below - to see other other ways the building benefits the local economy).
